And this is the last song that contributes to this album being a rehash. Everything after this point is pretty unique, at least for me. In fact, this song is pretty unique too, in the sense that I started it off as a follow up to "I Know", the 2nd track off my first album, since it followed "I, Feel" and this followed "Naming Scheme", so I tried to replicate the sound of "I Know" and I even used the same song structure, but instead of having a fast, screamed chorus, I decided to change things up and have a slow, sung chorus and oh man did it make the song a lot better.
Here's the original commentary I wrote on this during FAWM:
With Naming Scheme, I wanted to channel the same feel of my song "I, Feel", the first track off my first album. With this one, I wanted to channel the feel of "I Know", the 2nd song off my first album, so I used the same structure but instead of the chorus being screamed and fast, it's slow and actually sung. I think it sounds cool. The only other interesting thing about the creation process of this is that it was the first song I recorded vocals for in a new location! Yeah, I went and took a laptop into my mom's van and recorded in there, so I could actually project. I don't think it really made a difference here, well, except for the vocals being angrier, definitely wouldn't have been able to do that before. Suffice to say, the changed went well, so I'll definitely be using it more to get better vocal range, plus now I don't have to worry about only being able to record at night (due to background noise).
Maybe I'll actually tell you what this song is about one day if I'm drunk enough.
lyrics
There's been something on my mind
I started thinking 'bout a while ago.
There's something I've gotta tell you,
That I think you should know.
Something wrong I did a long
Time ago in secrecey.
But instead of telling you
I think I'll let it die with me.
'Cause there's some things
That you really shouldn't say.
But maybe I'll say it
If I'm drunk enough one day.
But I don't know
If that'd be good or bad.
'Cause I don't know
How you'd take it, would we last?
It's just been bugging me so much,
That secret bit of degeneracy.
It's just been on my mind 'cause I
Did it again last night, you see?
Except not really in the same way,
Or as bad, let's not forget.
But I still did it again...
And before, oh the regrets...
I just really wanna say (please forgive me)
I'm sorry that I was bad. (if I ever)
My biggest regret of the night (tell you)
Was that it wasn't the best I've had. (what I did)
So maybe one day I'll tell you
The dirty secret on my mind.
And then you'll kill me when you find out,
But I'll still try to be kind.
But there's some things
That you really shouldn't say.
But maybe I'll say it
If I'm drunk enough one day.
I just don't know
If that'd be good or bad.
'Cause I don't know
How you'd take it, would we last?
There's been something on my mind
I started thinking 'bout a while ago.
There's something I've gotta tell you,
That I think you should know.
Something wrong I did a long
Time ago in secrecey.
But instead of telling you
I think I'd rather let it die with me
'Cause I don't want to tell you now.
